Somerset County Technology Center Awarded $85,000 Grant, Says Metzgar, Stefano

HARRISBURG – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-69) and Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) announced the Somerset County Technology Center received an $85,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) through the Career and Technical Centers (CTCs) Competitive Equipment Grants program.

The funding will be used for updating or purchasing new equipment to train students on the skills necessary to meet the needs of today’s workforce.

“As today’s workforce needs continue to grow, it is imperative to put young people in the best possible position to succeed,” said Metzgar. “Career and technical centers play a significant role in identifying and developing talent, which in turn helps businesses for years to come. I am grateful to see this investment made into Somerset County.”

“Investing in career and technical education is an investment in the future of our community and economy,” Stefano said. “This grant will ensure that Somerset County Technology Center has the resources necessary to prepare students with the skills and experience needed to thrive in an evolving job market. Supporting programs like this strengthens the connection between education and the workforce, fostering success for both students and local businesses.”

The Somerset County Technology Center is one of over 80 CTCs in Pennsylvania.

Under the program, grants of up to $85,000 are awarded to school entities to update or purchase equipment used in the training of students in approved career and technical education programs. The equipment must be aligned with the needs of employers, and programming must provide students with hands-on use of the equipment as part of the curriculum.
