Stefano Announces Nearly $3.3 Million in Somerset County Grants

HARRISBURG – Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) today announced state grants totaling nearly $3.3 million have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

“I’m pleased to see this funding going back into Somerset County to improve safety and overall quality of life. Public safety is paramount – so whether it’s maintenance vehicles or necessary school building improvements, we must remain dedicated to protecting residents and investing in the safety of generations to come,” Stefano said.

The first portion of grants were awarded through the CFA’s Local Share Account (LSA) Program, which funds projects concerning the public interest, community improvement and economic development using gaming money generated by casinos.

  • Addison Township received $75,000 to survey and study a slide that impacts Lake Aide Drive.
  • Elk Lick Township received $140,880 to purchase a new 2025 Peterbilt Truck for the streets department.
  • Greenville Township received $240,835 to purchase a payloader and a compact tractor.
  • Jenner Township received $500,000 to construct a new ambulance building to be leased by the Somerset Ambulance Association.
  • Lincoln Township received $224,286 to purchase a versatile tractor and essential attachments.
  • Milford Township received $129,403 to purchase a new John Deere backhoe.
  • Shade Township received $156,600 for a visitors center and memorial rose garden to be located at the crash site of Flight 93. It also received $51,257 to purchase a police vehicle with associated lighting.
  • Stonycreek Township received $90,050 to purchase an excavator to be used to replace underground culverts and culvert boxes.
  • Summit Township received $170,000 to purchase a motor grader.

“I’m grateful to see this funding go toward essential equipment and infrastructure improvements that will expand our municipalities’ ability to operate more effectively and efficiently. I applaud the local leaders and organizations that applied for these grants on their proactive approach to keeping our communities safe,” Stefano said.

The final two grants were awarded through the CFA’s Public School Facilities Improvement Grant (PSFIG) Program, which provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects.

PSFIG grants benefitting the 46th District include:

  • Berlin Brothersvalley School District received $560,000 for HVAC, safety, roof, plumbing and AED upgrades at the K-12 facility in Berlin Borough.
  • Turkeyfoot Valley School District received $940,376 for a boiler, AED, plumbing, HVAC, roof and health and safety projects at the Turkeyfoot Valley School K-12 facility in Lower Turkeyfoot Township.

All projects were funded through the CFA, which is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
