HARRISBURG – Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) and Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-58) today announced a $38,000 state grant to purchase lifesaving equipment has been awarded to Scottdale Borough, Westmoreland County, through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
Scottdale Borough will receive the funding to purchase new equipment and upgrade essential equipment for the Scottdale Fire Department. Specifically, the grant will be used to purchase hydrant adaptors to improve connectivity and reliable water supply; escape belts to enhance safety; tools to increase forcible entry efficiency, battery charging and efficiency; and saws for debris removal and fire control.
“Pennsylvania’s firefighters have an incredibly stressful, difficult job to protect people and property in terrifying circumstances. It shouldn’t be made even more challenging because of the pressure to fundraise simply to have the critical equipment the job requires,” Stefano said. “This grant will ease the burden for the men and women who already do so much for all of us.”
The grant was awarded through the CFA’s Local Share Account Program, which funds projects concerning the public interest, community improvement and economic development using gaming money generated by casinos.
“While there are plenty of projects our municipalities would love to complete, most don’t have the resources to cross off everything on their wish lists,” Davanzo said. “I’m glad we were able to bring this funding back to our district to make these important equipment and facility upgrades.”
The CFA is an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that administers the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
