SOMERSET – Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) and Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-69) will host a complimentary breakfast for veterans to thank them for their service to our nation. The event will take place on Friday, Nov. 8, at the Somerset American Legion Post 181, 126 Main St. in Somerset. Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m. and breakfast will be served at 9 a.m.
“I look forward to this event every year, as it’s a great way for us to personally thank our dedicated veterans for their service and the sacrifices they have made for our country,” Stefano said. “It also gives us an opportunity to talk to veterans about the issues that are important to them and ensure that their voices are heard.”
The event will allow Somerset County veterans to connect with other local veterans and learn about the services the senator’s and representative’s offices can offer for state-level assistance.
The guest speaker for the event will be Boswell native, Sgt. Ret. Jacob Whipkey. After two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Whipkey was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for the wounds he received while under fire in Samara, ultimately leading to his retirement. Since the end of his service, Whipkey has worked with the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation, leading events across the country.
“I am honored to host this breakfast in recognition of our veterans, whose courage and sacrifice have shaped our nation,” Metzgar said. “It’s a privilege to gather together, celebrate their service and reaffirm our commitment to supporting them every day.”
The breakfast is free for all veterans. Those planning to attend must register by calling Stefano’s office at 814-443-2053 or Metzgar’s office at 814-443-4230.
