HARRISBURG – Several community-improvement projects across Bedford County received $3 million in funding, Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton) and Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) announced.
“I’m grateful to see this funding go toward essential equipment and infrastructure improvements that will expand our municipalities’ ability to operate more effectively and efficiently. Public safety is paramount – so whether it’s roadway maintenance or a necessary school roof replacement, we must remain dedicated to keeping residents safe and constantly look for ways to best enhance the quality of life throughout Bedford County,” Stefano said.
Projects funded through the Local Shares Account through the Commonwealth Financing Authority are:
- Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company to build a new, 7,700 square-foot, five bay, pre-engineered fire station in Schellsburg Borough: $400,000.
- West Providence Township Municipal Authority to improve three pump stations: $704,500.
- Cumberland Valley Township to buy a tractor with side mower: $148,981.
- Hopewell Borough to buy a tractor: $28,999.
- Hopewell Borough to replace sewer lines and manholes: $156,195.
- Londonderry Township to buy a mini excavator: $94,880.
- Napier Township to buy a grader for general maintenance of township roads: $300,000.
In addition, two school districts received grants through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program.
“Ensuring our students have a safe place in which to learn is essential. These grants address building issues, creating the learning environment students deserve,” Topper said. “Combined with the grants for our municipalities, this helps build a better Bedford County that will continue to thrive.”
Bedford Area School District received $1.2 million for a roof replacement project at Bedford High School. Currently, there are buckets to catch leaking water and dehumidifiers to control humidity placed throughout the school. The district will repair or replace 17 sections of the roof. The project will improve air quality and reduce maintenance costs. PSFIG funds will be used for construction costs.
Northern Bedford County School District received $500,000 for a window replacement and plumbing improvement project at the Northern Bedford County Elementary School. All windows will be replaced, and new PVC pipes will be installed to replace deteriorating terra cotta lines.
