HARRISBURG – Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) and Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-58) announced today that nearly $259,000 in funding was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for Westmoreland County community safety initiatives.
“Protecting our constituents is paramount, and it’s great to see this funding going toward not only safer roadways but equipment to aid those who serve our communities,” Stefano said. “I’m pleased to work with Rep. Davanzo to secure these funds and help ensure safety for Scottdale residents.”
Scottdale Borough will receive more than $159,000 for sidewalk and roadway improvements. The funding was approved by the CFA through the Multimodal Transportation Fund.
The borough will also receive two grants through CFA’s Local Share Account program, which is funded through state gaming revenues.
A grant for nearly $67,800 will be used to purchase a Ford F-550 to replace the borough’s aging municipal work vehicle. The truck will assist the borough’s street department with various maintenance, emergency response and snow removal tasks.
A grant for more than $32,100 will enable the Scottdale Fire Department to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus harness packs for situations and environments where the air quality is compromised or potentially harmful to human health. The purchase of these harnesses will improve firefighter safety, enhance emergency response time, reduce property damage and maintain compliance with safety regulations.
“Local Share Account funds are the results of casino revenue and many of these dollars are going to volunteer fire departments,” Davanzo said. “I can think of no better way to invest these dollars than to assist those who are sacrificing their own safety for their neighbors.”
The CFA is an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that administers the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
