HARRISBURG—Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) announced that fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS) organizations across his district will collectively receive more than $1.3 million in state grants through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s (OSFC) Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.
“It’s awesome to see so many organizations receive this crucial funding to help relieve the financial challenges that local departments are bound to face,” said Stefano. “Our first responders are essential to our communities.”
This funding comes from an ongoing grant program, created by the Legislature and then administered by the OSFC and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), backed by proceeds from slot machine gaming, and non-General Fund tax revenue. Grants may be used toward construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, recruitment, or debt repayment.
To receive their funding, each organization must file a grant agreement by July 1. For more on the program and the grant agreement, visit the OSFC’s website.
“Congratulations to all of the awardees,” said Stefano. “We want to ensure that this funding makes its way to each of these organizations. With that, please remember to file your agreements on time. My office is available to assist with the process, should you have any issues.”
