Last week, Gabe Bente from Connellsville and Kalilah D’Angelo from Dunbar, students at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, joined us at the capitol with their peers and teachers.
The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf provides exceptional education and support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing from across the commonwealth. Gabe and Kalilah shared with me how much they love being part of their school community—where they’re receiving a quality education, building lifelong friendships and embracing countless opportunities. It was great to meet them and each of their classmates.

Congratulations to Sebastian McClain, @fayettecopa’s newest Recycling Ranger! 🌎♻️
Since he was 3 years old, Sebastian has been diligent about visiting the Fayette County Recycling Convenience Center each month and doing his part to ensure his family`s recyclables are carefully sorted. In honor of Earth Day and because of his commitment to keeping Fayette County green, the recycling center named him a Recycling Ranger. Great work, Sebastian!

As a part of Pennsylvania Fair Queen Advocacy Day, local county fair queens journeyed to the capitol to discuss agricultural issues with their legislators. 👑 It was great to spend time with the three fair queens from the 32nd District: Olivia Sewalk, Bedford County; Haylee Bill, Fayette County and Sydney Walker, Somerset County.

🚌 This week is National School Bus Safety Week. 🚌
Congratulations to Evalyn Regetta of Stoystown who captured second place in Division 2 of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)`s School Bus Safety Week Poster Contest! 🎨 A student of North Star Middle School, Evalyn was selected as one of 10 young artists from across the commonwealth to have her poster displayed at the Pennsylvania State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg this week. She developed her poster to illustrate this year’s theme of “Driving Safely into the Future.”
Great work, Evalyn! 🥈

Thank you to those who attended yesterday`s senior expo at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus! It was great to see more than 300 of you come together to learn about the variety of resources that Fayette County, PA has to offer.
🩺 We especially appreciate the Penn State Fayette nursing students who provided blood pressure tests and health screenings to our attendees.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀 Each year, the @pabreastcancer turns the capitol fountain pink to raise awareness and show support for every life that has been touched by breast cancer.
With the passage of Act 1 of 2023, ensuring that Pennsylvanians see no out-of-pocket costs for diagnostic breast imaging, the commonwealth has become a national leader in early detection for breast cancer. One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and early detection has a 99% 5-year survival rate, so consistent mammograms are essential.

Congratulations to Normalville Church on 175 years of ministry. ✝️

It is an honor to have a hand in preserving history and it was a great privilege to celebrate the designation of the Leroy Freeman Berkebile Memorial Bridge.
As a Somerset County native, Captain Berkebile left behind a remarkable legacy of bravery and service. May future generations see this bridge and remember his inspiring story.

Last week, Connellsville honored Edwin S. Porter: a world-renowned film maker and visionary who revolutionized cinema with his groundbreaking techniques and storytelling. 🎥🎞
Connellsville Mayor Greg Lincoln declared September 6, 2024 as "Edwin S. Porter Day" in the city as Porter became the latest inductee to Fayette County Hometown Legends. The hometown legends sign now sits outside of the community center theater named in his honor, where the first Porter Film Fest was held throughout the weekend.

Thank you to those who made our Bedford County senior expo possible!
It was a great morning connecting older constituents with local resources they can benefit from. I truly appreciate the work of all of our exhibitors and sponsors that made this event a great success.

Yesterday, I visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville to join others in reflecting on the bravery and sacrifice of those 40 passengers who selflessly gave their lives to prevent further tragedy 23 years ago. May their courage always be remembered.
